Infection Issues – Lip Piercing:

Most lip piercings have the potential to damage both gums and teeth if proper jewelry is not worn, or if the placement of the individual piercing is poor. A home-made saline solution or sea salt rinse (Combine 1/8 teaspoon, sea salt to 1 cup of warm water) is a common way to heal a lip piercing and avoid infection. Complete healing usually takes several weeks or more – Lip/Labret: 2 to 4 weeks. During this period, care must be taken to avoid infection. For Lip piercing, kissing should be avoided to prevent infection during the healing process.
